Course Outline

  • Understanding Learning, Its Function, and the Be-Do-Get Model
Learning is an innate human need for mental stimulation. We often confuse checkboxes and processes with true learning. Behavioral change is more akin to a dance than a fixed destination. The Be-Do-Get model illustrates how we achieve better results (i.e., how we learn).

Be – Paradigms – Shifts can be instant – Often triggered by an experience – A feeling of wanting or needing to change. This feeling can be positive or negative; while negative triggers are fast-acting, they can be painful or erode trust.
Do – Skills/Actions – Change gradually – Requires commitment, focus, connection, repetition, and willpower.
Get – Outcomes – Cannot be controlled directly.
  • Shifting Your Paradigms
    - Identifying habitual beliefs – Exploring ways to free the mind from automatic conclusions, examining the 'table legs' that support beliefs, and learning how to remove them (rather than trying to overturn the table by leaning on it!).
  • Informal Learning
    - Techniques for learning while working, as opposed to relying solely on formal courses and textbooks.
  • Learning Styles
    - Understanding how you best process information and implementing strategies to accelerate learning and improve information retention.
  • Memory Tips & Information Systems
    - Simple techniques to help retain essential information in short-term memory or lock it permanently in the 'habit brain,' while keeping other data 'on file' for future reference. Examples include Sherlock’s memory palace and Cornell’s note-taking system.
  • Reflection & Action Planning
    - Reflecting on your goals for the day (established at the start of the course), advising yourself on one to three specific actions you will alter upon returning to work, and planning how to stay on track if you forget.

Target Audience:

This course is ideal for anyone aspiring to learn new behaviors that lead to an improved quality of life, stronger relationships, and the achievement of personal goals. It addresses the gap between knowing and doing. For instance, you might understand the need to be more assertive and even know the steps involved, but without the desire and belief in your ability to change, transformation remains out of reach. This course resolves that challenge.
