Day 3: Implementation of a BCMS

Day 4: Performance evaluation, continual improvement, and preparation for the certification audit

Day 5: Certification exam

The “PECB Certified ISO 22301 Lead Implementer” exam complies with the PECB Examination and Certification Program (ECP) requirements. The exam covers the following competency domains:

Domain 1: Fundamental principles and concepts of a BCMS

Domain 2: Initiation of a BCMS implementation

Domain 3: Planning of a BCMS implementation based on ISO 22301

Domain 4: Implementation of a BCMS based on ISO 22301

Domain 5: Evaluation of the performance of a BCMS based on ISO 22301

Domain 6: Continual improvement of a BCMS based on ISO 22301

Domain 7: Preparation for a BCMS certification audit 

PECB ISO 22301 Implementer Certification Requirements

To achieve a PECB ISO 22301 Implementer certification, all candidates must successfully pass the PECB Certified ISO 22301 Lead Implementer Exam (or an approved equivalent) and agree to sign the PECB Code of Ethics.

Depending on your professional background and hands-on project history, you can apply for one of four distinct credential tiers:

1. Provisional Implementer

  • Credential: PECB Certified ISO 22301 Provisional Implementer

  • Professional Experience Required: None

  • BCMS Project Experience Required: None

  • Best Suited For: Newcomers to the industry or professionals transitioning into business continuity management who have passed the exam but have not yet accumulated field hours.

2. Implementer

  • Credential: PECB Certified ISO 22301 Implementer

  • Professional Experience Required: Two years total, with at least one year specifically focused on Business Continuity Management work experience.

  • BCMS Project Experience Required: A cumulative total of at least 200 hours of project activities.

3. Lead Implementer

  • Credential: PECB Certified ISO 22301 Lead Implementer

  • Professional Experience Required: Five years total, with at least two years specifically focused on Business Continuity Management work experience.

  • BCMS Project Experience Required: A cumulative total of at least 300 hours of project activities.

4. Senior Lead Implementer

  • Credential: PECB Certified ISO 22301 Senior Lead Implementer

  • Professional Experience Required: Ten years total, with at least seven years specifically focused on Business Continuity Management work experience.

  • BCMS Project Experience Required: A cumulative total of at least 1,000 hours of project activities.
